Newington Art League Artist Spotlight – Seashell Art by Phyllis Small

Phyllis Small loves art and dabbles in many mediums. As resident of Newington for over 30 years, being a Newington Art League member gives her that extra drive to pursue her love.
Starting at the age of 5 using crayons, she immediately found something that she would stay with.
When asked why she loves creating artwork Small stated “you get lost in the piece, working the colors, getting them just right. I want people to feel how I do when I create the piece. I become so focused, I lose all sense of time and everything else. It makes me feel happy.”
Small loves the ocean and its seashells which led to this creation of a landscape on a seashell. She was drawn to this landscape because of the serenity it brought her – thus the name. It takes her back in time when times were easier and simpler.
