Master Pastelist Karen Israel to Demo

Following the Newington Art Leagues 6:30 pm business meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 in the Ceramics Room of the Newington Senior and Disabled Center at 120 Cedar St., Newington, artist Karen Israel will demo flowers in pastel using a watercolor underpainting. This demonstration is free and open to the public.

Dynamic composition and a unique viewpoint are the hallmarks of Karen Israel’s pastel paintings. She is influenced by the light and mood of the subject and lets those elements dictate her approach. These subjects are rendered with a strong appreciation for the rigors of formal design coupled with a fearless array of color choice.

Karen enjoys teaching pastel almost as much as she enjoys painting. She conducts many teaching demonstrations and workshops for art organizations throughout the United States. Karen has been invited to participate in “Pastels of the World in Bourbonnais” honoring American Women pastelists April 20-June 20.  Her work will be on display at the Chateau de Louviere and she will be conducting a demo and workshop during this time. In addition, Practique Des Arts will feature this Exhibition; Karen’s process and her work will be included in this magazine.

Karen is a member of the Salmagundi Club,Elected Member of Lyme Art Association and she currently serves on the Board of the Pastel Society of America where she has earned the title of Master Pastelist.
