Become a “Friend of the Newington Art League”

The Newington Art League needs your support. We are offering local businesses a “Friend of the Newington Art League” status for $35 per year. The organization is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charity and your donations should be tax deductible. Your business would be prominently listed on our show programs as well as on our website and Facebook page.

The art league, recently removed from it’s location in the Kellogg-Eddy House to make way for a new caretaker, is now in need of a new space. We rely on member dues and fundraising to support our programs which currently include a Scholarship to a Newington High School Student, six artist demonstrations per year free and open to the public, coordination and judging of the Chalk Walk and two art shows each year. While we would like to offer art classes and workshops, we cannot do so without an accessible location to hold them.

Please contact Pat Tanger at (860) 331-1984 or email pattanger@att.net if you are interested in more information.

September 14th features Jane Zisk

The Newington Art League will have a short business meeting on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30 pm in the Ceramics Room of the Newington Senior and Disabled Center at 120 Cedar St. The meeting will be followed by a demonstration of abstract painting in oil by Jane Zisk. These meetings are always free and open to the public.

Jane-Zisk-demo

Jane Zisk is the Founder of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society. Jane was inspired by the American artists who were painting in Cos Cob, Branchville and Old Lyme in the late 1800’s and decided to carry on the plein air tradition made popular by J. Alden Weir, Childe Hassam, and others. Jane, who has been an artist for over 30 years, has also worked as a framer for many years at Hartford Framing in East Hartford, CT. All art whether it is representational or abstract is a spiritual path to Ms. Zisk. Having overcome a chronic illness Jane sees her art as a healing experience.

We need a new home!

The Newington Art League will be vacating the second floor of 679 Willard Ave. in Newington so that the town can use the apartment we occupied for a caretaker.
We have rented the Ceramics Room at the Newington Senior and Disabled Center so that we can continue our meetings with artist demonstrations, but we cannot currently support our mission to provide a creative venue for artist to practice their craft.
We are working with Newington Parks and Recreation to see if their Arts and Crafts room can be used by our Monday morning painting group starting on August 22nd, but that has yet to be confirmed.
Our Treasurer posted on Facebooks “What’s happening in Newington” and several ideas came forth including a generous offer from Garrett Kenny to use his barber shop during off hours.

Any help in finding a new permanent home would be much appreciated.

Thank you.
