Wood-burning gourds (Pyrography) Demonstration by Artist Suzanne “Zahnii” Artis

The Newington Art League will conduct its general membership meeting on Wednesday Oct. 11, at 6:30 PM, in the Ceramics Room at the Newington Senior and Disabled Center. Address is 120 Cedar St, Newington, CT 06111.
Following this short meeting Suzanne “Zahnii” Artis will conduct a demonstration on “Pyrography”, or “Wood-burning gourds”. She will bring examples of her works in progress as well as some completed pieces. The meeting and demonstration are free and open to the public.
Zahnii lives on the Connecticut shoreline and has lived there most of her life. She has worked as an educator for the past 20+ years, mostly as a School Librarian (currently in the New London, District). After her children went off to college, she revisited her life goals and aspirations. During that time, she renewed her love of music through singing and guitar playing. In addition, she began wood-burning gourds finding it meditative and healing. Having doodled all her life, she creates elaborate whimsical designs inspired by henna-like patterns, mandalas and zentangles. She also experiments with burning a variety of wooden objects such as spoons, utensils, boxes and even a tambourine!
