Wonderful Shauna Shane Pastel Demo!
Shauna began with a watercolor underpainting before she applied any pastel. While she painted, she shared her thoughts on painting not the things, but instead concentrating on shapes and values. She worked form a photo on her iPad, explaining where she was seeing the dark values and light values.
She let the watercolor dry and then worked on painting the shapes in pastel, always comparing the values and creating a path for the viewer with the light and darks. There was not time during the demonstration to create a finished painting, but the piece was off to a lovely start.
